Anniversary Post

Well, our 4th anniversary was a week and a half ago. I spent the day picking up the house while a cleaning lady I hired got it all clean...cleaner than it's been since Witten was born.

After that, we left for Austin to spend the night with my sister-in-law and her family. We had fun visiting, and didn't head out to San Antonio nearly as early as we had planned in the morning.

Since we couldn't check into the hotel until after 4, we went to the San Juan Mission. Thank goodness for good GPS on phones. I just typed in San Juan Mission, and it lead us straight there! The mission was really pretty. It was over 100 degrees outside though, and we had forgotten to put on sun screen, so we only spent about 30 minutes outside.Next, we decided to stop off at the Riverwalk and eat our anniversary dinner. We had been to The Republic of Texas before, so we decided to go back because we knew we liked the food, and we had a coupon for a free appetizer that we had printed off from the San Antonio tourism site. Finally, we headed to the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa. It was beautiful. The rooms were nice, and they had a huge fridge where we could keep food and drinks. As soon as we got in, we put on our suits and headed out to the lazy river.

When you got in, there was a little beach on the other side of the river with sand. The water was really shallow (about 4”) everywhere except on the far side away from the beach. We made a few stops at the fire pit for some S'mores...YUM! It was a nice, lazy evening. When the lazy river was still full of kids at 9, we decided to head to the adults only pool. Man...it was so pretty too, and we could see that there was plenty of shade all over the pool and chairs, so we knew that we would be spending some time there the next day.

On Friday, we spent the entire day, after sleeping in, at the pool side. We ended up taking a long nap under the shade of the trees next to the adult pool which was pretty empty because most people were there with kids.We had $75 worth of gift cards to the Hyatt which we couldn't apply to our room bill because we paid for the rooms on hotels.com, so we ate by the pool and had the most expensive sandwich and chips of our lives! I guess it wasn't really too expensive though since we didn't end up paying for them.Around 5, we decided to head to our new hotel in downtown literally next to the Alamo. The hotel was an old historic building called The Crockett hotel. This is when the weekend kind of took a turn for the worse, and I got a bad attitude. Our room overlooked the lobby which wasn't all bad except that they didn't have curtains on the windows, only shutters that let in enough light to see by. I can't sleep like that, so I didn't get just a whole lot of sleep that night. We headed back out to the Riverwalk for a really good Mexican dinner at Rita’s, another place we had a coupon for. I realized while in Austin that I had forgotten to bring my print out for my free ticket, so Katie allowed me to print it at her place. Unfortunately, I printed the wrong thing, so when we asked at the Crockett about printing, they said that we could use the lobby computer which cost $6 for 20 minutes. We put in our credit card number and began. The computer was very slow. After we printed my ticket, we decided to buy the wrist bands for the food. As we were pressing print, it timed out. We talked to the manager about it, and he allowed us into his office to print the paper for out wrist bands.

We got up early the next morning to take off for Sea World, but even though we thought we left at a decent time, we looked at the clock, and it was 10:15. We thought for sure that we had left around 9:35. The line to drive into the park took us about 20 minutes, and then we spent another hour and 15 minutes in line to buy our tickets (I actually got a free season ticket for being a Texas teacher which was nice), followed by another 5 minutes in line to get into the park. This was kind of the way the rest of our day went.

We had bought wrist bands for $30 each that got us food and drink all day. Unfortunately, it was a Saturday in the summer, so the lines were crazy. It took us at least 20 minutes in each line to get something to eat.

The water park is in it's own area, and we had gone there first and gotten a locker. Big mistake. We didn't realize that that part of the park could only hold a certain number of people. If it filled up, you had to wait in another line to get in. Well, we waited there for about 45 minutes. Luckily, we were next to some funny girls that we talked to the whole time, and we were able to find some shade most of the time that we were waiting.

We saw this sign right before we got in, and I particularly enjoyed the last one.
Between visits to the water park, we went to see Shamu. The first time that we went, it was already full, so we found food and waited for the next show. After the water park closed, it closes at 8 even though the rest of the park doesn't close until 10, we got dinner and went to the Azul show. We had scoped it out before dinner, and wanted to be in a place where we wouldn't get wet because I had my Nikon with me. The girl told us to stay away from the blue boxes and the lawn chair. The two girls in line with us for the water park had warned us of this too. They told us that the guy who sits in the lawn chair would dump huge cups of water on people's heads and soak them.Well, this guy came to sit next to me.I made Mitch trade places with me, and the guy tried to come sit between me and the guy on my other side, so I moved in REALLY close to the stranger. He was a little confused, but his wife (or girlfriend) explained, and she thought it was funny. The crazy guy eventually moved down a couple of rows, but made me part of the show a bit by looking back at me, sticking out his tongue, and kind of shunning me. It was all very funny. (He didn't talk at all until the REAL show started.)

He finally made it up to his chair, and that's when he started his water antics. He poured his huge cup on the people next to him, and kept spraying people with the water that came out of the blue concrete blocks. Then the beluga and dolphins came in. They had acrobats and divers. Shamu was good, but this show was great! When it was over, we headed to the gift shop at the front of the park to get a few things for Witten, and t-shirts for ourselves. Mitch started worrying about me though because I was really lethargic and talking funny. We got out of there quickly and headed to McDonald's for water. I felt much better after that. It was REALLY hot at the park, but we had some beautiful cold breezes, and I found myself thanking God every single time one of the blew past us!We parked our car back at the $5 lot just behind the $20 hotel lot, and headed out to the Alamo for some night time pictures. After standing there for over an hour with camera poised, I was finally able to get this picture without ANYONE in it! (It was about midnight after this point.)Mitch put doubled up blankets on the shutters to try to block out some of the light. It helped some, but surprisingly, it still was pretty light in the room.On Sunday morning, Mitch made a quick 20 minute trip through the Alamo while I sat in the car (it was quite hot already and we were in jeans for church.) Mitch had found directions to Max Lucado's church, and we thought we'd go try it out. He comes to RHCC once a year to preach because he and Rick, our preacher, were roommates in college. Well, he ended up at one of the satellite campuses, so we decided just to head home early so that we could spend a little more time with Witten before bed.

I can't wait until Witten is old enough to go with us. We will not go to Sea World during the summer again though...especially on a Saturday!
