He has been really growing though, and is now 12 1/2 pounds, and 23" long. We had ECI (early childhood interventionists) come out for a second consultation (Witten didn't qualify for services after the first because he was functioning on level with his birth age, and was even a little ahead in some areas.) They were happy to come out and check him again.
He will be 6 months old next Friday, and is functioning at a 7 month old level in communication and social skills. This was so nice to hear because they say to expect a delay back to the gestational age which would put him at 3 months old. That means he's 4 months ahead of that age, and 1+ months head in birth age.
Unfortunately, he was at a 2 month old level in his physical abilities. They reassured us that since he is gaining weight so well now, we can put him on his tummy and make him work without worrying about the spitting up or throwing up effecting his weight. They gave us some tips on things to do to develop his stomach muscles, and after only 2 days of work with him, he rolled over for the first time. The ladies seemed to think that he would be able to catch up quickly as long as we really work with him at doing all the physical things he needs. I think we just needed to hear that it was ok for him to lose some of his caloric intake so that we would feel ok about putting him down. For so long it's been about weight gain, and it has been hard to change our mindset, but in being too cautious with that, we have hurt his growth in other areas. With the knowledge that we gained on Tuesday though, I have no doubt that we can get him back on track by the new year, and I am just so happy that he's so advanced in other areas!

Thank goodness that he is verbally and socially where he should be. The physical you can help catch him up on. The other would be more concerning just because that would seem to be mental development. You are smart to care and research everything while he's young. That will make a huge difference.
