2012 Family Retreat

This weekend, we went on our first Pleasant Ridge Family retreat.  We stayed in these rooms that were just wall to wall bunk beds because it's a summer camp for kids, but our family of 4 got a whole cabin to ourselves!  It felt pretty empty in there, but it was nice too because we were able to hide Witten's froggy potty in a corner so that if he needed to go late at night, we didn't have to drag him out in the cold.

Speaking of cold, IT. WAS. COLD!  We got there really late a Friday night.  (I get the impression that we took the long was to get there.)  Since we had to wait until I got out of school, we also left at rush hour, so we didn't get out of the metroplex until almost 2 hours after we left.  Needless to say, it was a little frustrating.  By the time we got to the retreat, most of the families were in their cabins because they had young kids they needed to get to bed.  We decided to trek out to the bonfire though.  We lasted for a few minutes, had some good hot chocolate, made a s'more, and then headed back to the cabin.  It was just too cold, too late, and Reese couldn't eat because the wind was too strong.

We got to sleep pretty late, but that didn't stop the kids from waking us up nice and early.
It was fun to see everyone at breakfast.  We played some games outside, had lunch, and then it was rest time.  We were so tired that we went back to the cabin and crashed.  People tried texting us to let us know what was going up, but there was just no waking us!  Finally, we all dragged ourselves out of bed and went back to the mess hall to interact with everyone else.  We spent pretty much the rest of the day in there because it was pretty drizzly and cold outside.  We did go on the hayride around the camp.

It was cold, but it was fun!

Since it was so cold and wet, we made a fire indoors, and LouAnn brought these little fire pots where we could cook our marshmallows for s'mores.
We got to bed late again, and were up bright and early on Sunday morning for church.

We had so much fun, and are really looking forward to next year's retreat!
