too soon...
So we closed on both houses today, and then called to have someone meet us at the new house so that we could get the keys and get in. Unfortunately, since the buyer of our house isn't closing until tomorrow, the house isn't fully funded yet, and the seller won't let us move our stuff. Never mind that it's Thanksgiving, and we're on a deadline so that we can take off for Colorado on Wednesday afternoon. That doesn't matter though, and we're not allowed in the house...PROBLEM...The movers were scheduled to come out tomorrow morning, as was ATT for phone, TV, and DSL. We had to reschedule the movers for Wednesday afternoon. Then, when we called ATT, their offices were closed. We'll have to try to get them immediately when they open in the morning to reschedule the job for hopefully Friday morning. We also had to call Laurie and cancel our trip up to Denver because there's no way that we can get moved in and still be there for Thanksgiving. At least not a relaxed Thanksgiving.
Then, Mitch tried to call Direct TV to cancel our service. We're apparently under contract though, so that's going to cost us $120. Not too big of a deal. But, they want all of their receivers back. Mitch told them that we'd be happy to give them the two that we leased from them specifically, but that we would not give them the HD receiver which we purchased from Best Buy for 3 times what it costs to rent one from Direct TV. They have stated that that one is also leased, and if we choose not to give it back to them, it will cost us $470. This on top of the $300 that we spent to begin with. We could just give the thing back and be done with it, but at this point, it's the principle of the thing, and you guys know how I am!
As upset as I was by the time we were 1/2 way done with closing, and I did think about actually backing out of the contract, I realized that I wouldn't be this upset about things happening a bit later if we didn't have plans for Thanksgiving, and 1 year's trip to Denver is not worth missing out on the deal that we're getting the house for. So...all that to say...we'll try again tomorrow.

Sorry about your Thanksgiving plans getting messed up...but it sounds like it'll be worth it!
