We have been planning a roommate weekend since last fall when I found Lori, mine and Jo's old college roommate. We hadn't been in contact with her since I had gotten back from Africa, and when I finally found her, we decided that we had to get together. Unfortunately, school was in full swing, and with all three of us being teachers, we decided to let it wait until Spring Break. But, as it often does, we let life get in the way, and Spring Break turned into July (after the wedding) which turned into August because of the fact that Joanna's remodel of her new house was not going smoothly, and she really wanted to move back out of her parents house. (She moved back in last February due to the smokers in the apartment below her, and the fact that their disgusting habit was effecting her health in her own apartment.)
We had finally picked a date. An actual date, not just a time frame, as we had done many times before. That's when it happened. Jo realized that that was her last weekend to work on her house before school started for her, and she had another friend from college coming in the following Monday, so she needed to have the house done. That was the official postponement of the first annual roommate weekend. Sure, I'll be spending a lot of time with Jo this weekend trying t help her get the house finished, but it would have been great to see Lori and get to talk to her in person again! (Talking for 5 minutes at the wedding hardly counts as a proper conversation!)
On the plus side, Jo doesn't know it yet because she's been in Wisconsin for a week, but I got a few of our friends over to her house last Sunday after lunch to finish tearing out the floor in her kitchen, and to put the furniture up in the rooms that have been completed. She will officially be able to move into her house as soon as she gets home on Friday afternoon if she wants to. i am so excited for her to see it!
